Beyond the mountains

Henry grew up in a Chinese village surrounded by towering mountains with a singular dream, cross them and explore the world beyond.

“My dream used to be very simple: to cross the mountains and explore the outside world,” Henry said.

That determination shaped his future, leading him to university and into the world of engineering.

“Where there is a will, there is a way. After great persistence, I was finally admitted to my dream university,” he said.

That mindset carried him through his career. His first step into the industry was as a project engineer, contributing to major infrastructure projects like the Australia Desalination Plant and SOFEC Calm Buoy.

Then came Monadelphous — a company that offered new challenges and new opportunities. Rising from packing supervisor to logistics manager, Henry took charge of transport operations across land, sky, and sea.

Each shipment brings a race against time with tight deadlines, complex coordination, and high stakes.

“I love the feeling of watching a loaded vessel depart, knowing the team’s hard work got it there on time,” he said.

For him, engineering and logistics go beyond technical skills — they shape industries, drive innovation, and impact everyday life.

“It is exciting to work in the engineering industry as most of our daily necessities come from this space,” Henry explains.

“Here, we can learn a lot. We can learn more about our earth and meet many friends.”

Outside of work, sport keeps him active and focused.

“I like sport and enjoy teamwork games, even though I’m not a good player. Exercise keeps the body and mind in good shape,” he said.

Henry adds that success isn’t just about hard work — it’s about the team behind it.

“I am so lucky to have two lovely kids, one boy and one girl, so family is the source of motivation for me,” he said.

“I grew up with this team, from SinoStruct to Inteforge, from steel structure to modules and skids. I like this team I work with, where people support each other, solve unpredictable issues together and, with full support of our team members, we deliver wonderful products to our clients.”

His favourite memories centre around team-building activities, especially the annual party, which involves “nice food, good drink, enjoyable games, and everyone happily communicating with each other, summarising the past and looking into the future.”

Henry crossed those first mountains years ago, but the journey hasn’t stopped. With every project, every shipment, and every lesson, he keeps moving forward, grateful to be part of a company that values its people.

“Monadelphous is a great organisation that cares about its people. I feel lucky to be a part of this team, able to enjoy a work-life balance,” he said, ready for whatever comes next.
