Lights switch

Sustainability

In a bid to reduce emissions and enhance sustainability measures, our Chinchilla and Newcastle workshop teams have made a small but significant switch.

Despite not owning these facilities, the branches have taken the initiative to replace 100 per cent of the fluorescent and halogen lights with lower-wattage LED alternatives.

Led by HSE Advisor Brianna Deer, Monadelphous' sustainability facilities audits identified Chinchilla as having the lowest lighting efficiency rating among the six assessed facilities.

Rising to the challenge, the Chinchilla team led by example, swiftly being the first to close out all sustainability recommendations and transitioning to 100 per cent LED lighting.

As well as being a more environmentally responsible option, the switch has the added benefits of an estimated annual power saving of $2,839 for outdoor lighting, $3,198 for workshop lighting, and $1,483 for office lighting, with a two-year payback return on investment for materials and labour.

Similarly, the Newcastle office, which is also a leased facility, wasted no time recognising the benefits of adopting LED lighting.

Area Manager Nathan Brown highlighted the financial sense in switching to lower wattage LED lighting, with savings of 16.7 kilowatts per shift.

“The investment in LED lighting materials, amounting to $1787.22, will be recouped within a short payback period of 313 days, benefiting not only our New South Wales business but also the environment,” Nathan said.

These initiatives align with our commitment to environmental sustainability and taking a proactive approach towards reducing the carbon footprint of our operations.
