Reaching out on Lihir Island

Some of our maintenance team on Lihir Island recently travelled around to six local schools to deliver some much-needed sporting supplies as well as ink cartridges for printers provided last year.

Jason Merrin (Site Manager), Arnold Ningikau (SMP Supervisor), Alfred Waleya (HR) and Geraldine Kanga (Site Admin) visited the schools and said it was an incredibly humbling experience to see how excited the kids were to receive the boxes of supplies.

“The first school we visited had over 200 students and they all came out to greet us which was amazing to see,” Jason said.

“We have a big presence over here, so it’s very important to us that we are involved in the local community and continue to show our appreciation and respect.

“The priority for me was to make it clear to the local community how grateful we are to be here, working on their land with their people.

“We aren’t just here to provide employment opportunities but also to build relationships and make a real difference in the community.”

Our team have been working on the Lihir Gold Mine in Papua New Guinea since 2017. Approximately 400 Monadelphous employees are engaged with the project, majority of whom are local to Papua New Guinea and the surrounding region.

The Lihir Island operations are supported by the team in Brisbane who provide recruitment, HSE, training, procurement, and quality assurance to ensure the project’s ongoing successful delivery.
