Leadership Updates EC
3 Minute Read

Welcome to the latest edition of On the Hook as we wrap up another financial year. It’s been a huge 12 months filled with achievements, milestones and plenty of challenges tackled head-on. As always, your dedication, teamwork and tenacity are what make our success possible.

Highlights from the last 12 months include:

  • Established market position in complex Heavy Haulage and Alternative Lifting via success of Pluto 2, securing Project Ceres and East coast exposure via Ampol Future Fuels.
  • 10 major shutdowns successfully delivered across Kings Valley, Firetail and Eliwana with 255,000+ hours completed on site and over 95% people retention.
  • Increased study works and early contractor involvement engagements positioning for future work.
  • Successful completion of integrated project work at Kathleen valley, CGP3, Prominent Hill and Western Range.
  • Woodside team had their largest year driven by ad hoc project works.
  • Port Hedland team executed the Broome Installation of 886t Linkspan using Strand Jacks and the CC8800 has been in action on the CD3 shut.
  • Roll out of dynamics 365 underway with 4 projects running in the system.
  • Investment in capability development through early careers, vacation students emerging leaders, and traineeship program expanded to include additional crane operator trainees and the rigging traineeship.
  • SPMT capability development framework created, and OEM led training undertaken.

A massive shout-out to everyone involved in the successful rollout of our Driver Fatigue and Distraction Monitoring System (DFDMS) across our sites. The Mix4000 units have now been fitted into our full fleet - light vehicles, trucks, buses and articulated cranes - adding a critical layer to our fatal risk controls.

The system is already making a real impact, actively helping to prevent incidents linked to fatigue and distraction. Huge thanks to our maintenance crew for leading the charge on this rollout.

We recently brought together our on-site and off-site leaders for the Heavy Lift HSE Forum, providing a valuable opportunity to reflect on the past 12 months, align on future priorities and reinforce the strength of our safety culture. The event spotlighted several key achievements, including a record-breaking 590,975 hours worked, 85 Tinny Time award nominations, and a wave of innovations across our operations. These results speak volumes about the culture we’ve built - grounded in experienced leadership, forward planning and targeted risk management.

Key focus areas for improvement emerged too, from enhancing leadership accountability and risk management frameworks, to further embedding hands-off rigging techniques, and strengthening psychosocial safety. The conversations were real, energising and forward-looking.

Call out to the Alevro crew at the Ampol Future Fuels Project who wrapped up 18 months of work with just one minor environmental incident. At FMG, our team recently completed two years incident-free on the HME project. Your vigilance and commitment continue to set the standard.

Our overall HSE performance has remained strong throughout the year. Positive reporting culture, ownership of incidents and a clear focus on continuous improvement are driving our progress. With a busy period ahead, maintaining focus and our high standards is critical.

A highlight this month was the arrival of our first fully electric crane, the JMG MC 250 - a major milestone for Monadelphous and the future of lifting. We welcomed our team, customers and industry partners to its unveiling at Bibra Lake, celebrating a significant step forward in smart, sustainable operations.

The crane will be the first of its kind to operate in the Pilbara region and supports our decarbonisation efforts alongside our customers like Fortescue. Thanks to everyone involved from the initial concept to the final handover. Your ongoing motivation to find answers to problems and make them a reality has made this possible.

On the project front, it’s been full steam ahead. Our Heavy Lift SPMT team successfully discharged five heavy-lift items from the BBC Everest into BHP Nelson Point for the CD3 replacement project. With the largest load coming in at 330 tonnes and 11m wide, the team handled every aspect of the operation, from traffic management to stevedoring, with skill and precision.

At TAMS Broome, we marked another key milestone with the successful lift of the 886t Linkspan Bridge. Led by Senior Superintendent Clyde Hunter and delivered in collaboration with Fagioli and TAMS, the lift was executed as planned, despite shifting weather conditions. From barge mooring to hinge welding and final height adjustment, each step was carried out safely and with care. It was an outstanding collaborative effort and our customer was delighted.

This month we launched our new Monadelphous Rigging Pathway, with our inaugural intake of trainees kicking off the 12-month program. Offering hands-on experience, mentoring and the Certificate III in Rigging, we believe this will set the new gold standard for rigging across Australia and help build skilled, diverse teams ready for future industry needs.

And finally, congratulations to the following team members on their well-earned promotions and role changes:

  • Madelaine Russell – Mobilisation and Planning Manager
  • Jade Van Elswyk – Planning and Logistics Coordinator
  • Rosemarie Ipapo – Planning and Logistics Officer
  • Travis Gaspar – HL HSE Manager
  • Sara O’Brien – Maintenance Planner

We’re excited to see what you achieve in these new roles.

As the new financial year kicks off, let’s build on our strong foundations and keep pursuing excellence together. Here’s to another successful year ahead.

Until next time, stay safe!

Lorna
