Stephen Broadhead’s been lifting his career for almost 20 years, starting in the industry as a rigger float driver before progressing to leading hand, and now a Monadelphous Heavy Lift supervisor, he’s clocked up experience, kilometres and a number of great fishing spots.

Joining Monadelphous five years ago, Stephen has worked with cranes and rigging all around the Pilbara region of Western Australia since 2006. These days he spends his time leading a close-knit team at the Solomon Hub.

“I have worked on a variety of projects, including the Pluto and Barrow Island projects, and have met a lot of great people during my time on site,” he said.

When asked about his experience with Monadelphous, Stephen highlights that getting the job at the Company was a career highlight.

“I have worked on cranes for close to 20 years and it’s been great to be able to work my way up and be given opportunities to develop,” he said.

“I hadn’t worked in fixed plant maintenance before, but it’s been an enjoyable and rewarding experience with a great team onboard.

“I’ve enjoyed learning some new things in my role and the variety of work I’ve gotten to do while at Monadelphous,” he said.

In his free time, Stephen enjoys fishing throughout the Pilbara and going on 4WD and motorbike adventures.

“Being on site makes it difficult to get out to go fishing but I still make time for it when I’m on rest and recovery time.

“Fishing is my favourite thing to do, and I’ve been pretty lucky to fish just about everywhere along the Pilbara coast,” he said.

When asked about any words of advice when it comes to the FIFO lifestyle, Stephen suggests having clear goals, a plan and to give it your best shot.

“It’s important to make the most of the opportunities you’re given and be clear in why you’re doing what you’re doing.

“I think having a clear plan and a goal to work towards makes a big difference when you’re heading out to site.

“It can be a tough gig and a lot of the people on site know that but having something to work towards can make it all worthwhile,” he said.
