Monadelphous mateship core to Tinny Time

Mateship is part of the Monadelphous culture, and the take up of the Tinny Time safety program across Engineering Construction projects is evidence of the strong focus that our team have on mateship and going out of their way to help each other out and keep each other safe.  

“The Tinny Time initiative has been gathering momentum since launch late last year, and really helping to support and grow our positive safety culture,” said Travis Gasper, Heavy Lift HSE Lead.  

Celebrating some of the most recent Tinny Time recipients with a big shout out to the following team members:  

HELPING OUT: Casey Minson and Lucky Emery – Solomon Hub  

Franna Operator Casey and Dogman Lucky had no jobs on for fixed plant when they saw some members of the shutdown team unloading some counterweights in the yard. They took it upon themselves to help their mates out when they could have just as easily had a shade break.  

Great job helping out your mates! 

SPEAKING UP: Brett Flemming – Solomon Hub 

When Brett was asked to perform several unsafe lifts by another contractor onsite, he stopped the job and called his supervisor to the work area to discuss his concerns. Brett’s feedback was acknowledged, and the lifts were amended to ensure the work was completed in the safe and correct manner.

Brett went out of his way to support other work groups without being asked, and his easy-going nature, along with his sense of humour, are an asset to the team!

SPEAKING UP: Matt Tattis and Brendan Birrell – Port Hedland Heavy Lift Operations Centre

The crew were tasked with setting up a crane on a wharf. The position of the crane and outriggers were extremely critical due to the wharf loading restrictions.

After reviewing the lift study, both Matt and Brendan found some inconsistencies and stopped the works to seek clarification. Following a review with the supervisor and customer, it was determined the positioning of the crane was incorrect. Matt and Brendan were both commended for their attention to detail and commitment to safety by the customer and the Monadelphous team!

OWNING IT: Stephen Freeman – Gudai-Darri

Owning it and acknowledging feedback in a positive way, Steve was the recipient of a Tinny Time at Gudai-Darri. After reviewing constructive feedback on lifting requirements for generators, Steve immediately took this on board and put the feedback into practice, improving the safety of the task at hand.

Take some Tinny Time and nominate your teammates who you believe should be recognised for their contribution by advising your supervisor during shift debrief, or during re-focus sessions.
