Electrical and instrumentation Superintendent, Luke Jaenke, is about to celebrate his seven-year milestone with us. During that time, he has experienced a lot and is keen to share what he has learnt along the way.
My first project with Monadelphous was in 2016. Back then, I was in Darwin as an electrical and instrumentation technician on the Ichthy’s project. We had a good team up there and it was a great introduction to the business.
From there, I ventured oversees to Mongolia, which was quite a step change from the Northern Territory, but I was up for the challenge and hungry to gain more experience. My time on this project saw me step up into a supervisor role. Since then, I’ve been on various large-scale construction projects throughout the Pilbara working with all of our key customers.
Currently, I’m a superintendent on our Iron Bridge Magnetite project. As installation of this project is vertical in nature, together with the structural, mechanical and piping team, we hit the ground running and, to this point, have delivered our scope safely and on a very active work front. The team on this project have a strong culture with a willingness to help each other, deliver and celebrate success as a team. I’m looking forward to promoting a similar culture on the next project.
During my time in the industry, I have come to realise the importance of a good team. I believe that culture is something that needs to be ascertained from the start. You must establish a foundation which a project team can launch collectively – good culture breeds accountability and, in turn, results.
There have been some great highlights throughout the years, there is a real sense of achievement when you complete a project, no matter how big or small, and I get a kick in sharing that success with others. I’ve made a lot of good friends along the way and have had the opportunity to advance my skillset and knowledge, which I’m really grateful for.
I think the best way to get ahead in this industry is to educate yourself – listen, learn and ask questions. There is no better way to better yourself than by drawing on someone else’s knowledge to broaden your views.
I’m looking forward to expanding my skillset, tackling new challenges and experiences. I enjoy forming strong relationships and working in a collaborative team to deliver quality work. There are lots of future projects ahead and I’m excited to contribute to the positive trajectory of the E&I team.
