Powering on at Iron Bridge

Projects WA FMG Pilbara
1 Minute Read

In August last year, our team had boots on the ground at the Iron Bridge Magnetite Project to deliver structural, mechanical, piping, electrical and instrumentation (SMPE&I) works at the ore processing facility wet plant construction project.

Our electrical and instrumentation (E&I) team had an integral role to play on the project, including the installation of cable containment, cables, electrical equipment, instrumentation, lighting, small power devices, and complete construction verification activities within our scope areas. After almost eight months of work, the E&I team have successfully constructed, tested, and handed over all process facilities.

The electrical scope is vital to the wet plant as the work conducted by the team provides necessary power, control, and information for the processing facility to function efficiently and safely. Providing power to pumps, controls to operate values, motors, and other parts of the plant, gives automatic and remote information on how the system is operating.

During its peak the electrical team had close to 100 personnel on site, made up of electricians, trades assistants, superintendents, supervisors, engineers, and some specialist subcontractors including high voltage and fibre optic technicians. Many team members have now been deployed to other projects off the back of completion and handover of the work areas.

The team were commended for their ability to stand up the project within a short timeframe. This also led to additional scopes of work being awarded off the back of their ability to continuously deliver to a high standard.

Recently, Iron Bridge celebrated first ore through the wet processing facility. The E&I team worked collectively to complete construction, testing and submission of inspection test reports for critical first ore areas.  A huge achievement for all involved.

We look forward to a complete Iron Bridge project wrap up in an upcoming edition.
