After years of hard work and hands-on experience, Luke has reached an important milestone - he is now a fully qualified mechanical fitter, having successfully completed his apprenticeship!
Looking back to 2019, Luke began his journey as a trade assistant at the Darwin Workshop. After gaining hands-on experience across a variety of projects, he was offered the chance to formalise his skills through an apprenticeship.
Northern Territory Operations Manager Bob Howieson said Luke’s commitment and work ethic have always set him apart.
“His willingness to give anything a go and also continue to support the business in its growth, he has not only grown in his role but also as a leader in the group his attitude to his safety and the safety of others is second to none,” Bob said.
For Luke, completing his apprenticeship brought a sense of satisfaction and relief.
“After being in the industry for years, Monadelphous supported me to gain the qualifications as an adult apprentice,” Luke said.
One of the standout projects for Luke was bringing an unused lathe in the Darwin Workshop to life.
“I really enjoy machining so when asked to setup and manage the lathe (that has never been setup) as a project and then be able to operate for training as well as for jobs was a real highlight,” he said.
Reflecting on the trade, Luke shared what he’s learned along the way, and he credits both his team and mentors with helping him
“Mechanical fitting/machining is a broad qualification that covers so much of the industry, and it’s one where you can also specialise but that it also means that it can take you anywhere in the world,” Luke said.
“We have a very tight knit group in the Darwin workshop with a vast array of experience.”
“We have also had a pretty steady returning and experienced crew to the Gove shuts that has made it very easy for me to learn and gain experience in a one-on-one experience in the field within all aspects of the trade.”
Luke also acknowledged the impact of his lecturers and mentors during his training.
“I also would like to acknowledge my CDU lecturers and tutors Ben and Greg, as they have also been good mentors through the process,” he said.
“Lastly, I would like to thank Monadelphous and Bob Howieson for allowing me to pursue this goal of Mech trade through the RPL and apprenticeship process.”
Congratulations again to Luke on this well-earned milestone.
We look forward to seeing where your career takes you next!
