Students in the Pilbara are getting a front-row seat to their future, thanks to a refreshed Next Gen program that brings real-world careers into the classroom.
Supported through our Monadelphous Community Grants Program, the Next Gen program is stepping up in 2026 with a more structured and engaging approach designed to give regional students the same benefits as their metro peers.
Chair of the Next Gen Program for ECWA Sonya Liddle said Monadelphous’ support plays a practical role in enabling delivery across regional Western Australia, particularly in the Pilbara.
The program is now designed around a clear and connected learning framework, helping students understand energy as a system that shapes how we live, work and connect.
Through a STREAM approach, it brings together science, trades, technology, engineering and creative disciplines to reflect the full energy ecosystem. With consistent materials, defined outcomes and strong links to real-world context, the program builds confidence and awareness in a way that is accessible, relevant and scalable across both metro and regional communities.
“We have deliberately taken a broad approach so students can see the full range of opportunities across energy and infrastructure, not just traditional roles,” Sonya said.
Early signs show it is already hitting the mark. Industry, mentor and teacher sessions have seen strong engagement, with feedback highlighting how valuable it is for students to better understand the world of work around them.
“Students are surrounded by major projects but do not always see the people or pathways behind them,” she said.
“This helps bridge that gap and makes those futures feel achievable.”
Mentors are at the heart of that impact, volunteering their time and often travelling long distances to share their experiences and insights.
Looking ahead, the focus is on building something lasting. With continued support, the program is shifting from one-off visits to a more consistent presence in schools, helping strengthen partnerships and create clearer pathways into the entire energy ecosystem.
“We are building long-term impact by staying connected with schools and students over time,” she said.
As the program grows, there will be more opportunities for teams to get involved and help shape the next generation of talent across the regions where Monadelphous operates.
