Welcome to August’s edition of The Pipeline,
We’ve got another packed month ahead, with new equipment arriving at Muja, watching Robert get an icy splash for Daffodil Day, saying farewell to Angie, who has been such an important part of the team, and catching up with the Kalgoorlie crew who joined in for Keep Australia Beautiful.
Let’s start with safety, because it’s always front and centre in everything we do. It was fantastic to see RTW celebrate a big improvement with their recent safety milestone. A BBQ was the reward of choice, because nothing says “job well done” quite like a snag in bread; however, only 1 month into the new financial year, and we have seen someone requiring hospital treatment for a hand injury, which was totally preventable.
It takes all of us to do the right thing 100% of the time to ensure everyone goes home safely each day. Please continue to keep our focus on the safe way being the only way, and don’t be tempted to cut corners or lose focus on our hazard controls.
Teamwork is one of our core values at Monadelphous, and both M&IS and EC celebrate it with their Teamwork Batons. It was great to see that the latest recipients of these batons were the crews behind the launch of the Driver Fatigue and Distraction Monitoring (DFDM) system. This was a huge effort, and a great example of what can be achieved when HSE, Procurement, Innovation, Assets and our on-site leaders all get behind an idea and see it through.
On the topic of recognition, I often have the pleasure of handing out plenty of Monos’ Moments certificates. It’s one of the best parts of my job, even if it doesn’t always go quite to plan. On my last visit, I couldn’t access a restricted work area, so we ended up passing the certificate through the fence. Not exactly glamorous, but it did the trick, and a reminder that a good moment is worth celebrating, no matter how it’s delivered.
We love to hear stories from all our sites and all our people; it’s what makes these newsletters worth reading. If you’ve got a story or a photo to share, send it through to the comms team (communications@monadel.com.au), we’d love to include it. A special shout-out to Lisa McDonald from Olympic Dam, who sent through a cracking rainbow photo that one of the supervisors captured one morning. The ends of that rainbow link our Roxby Fab shop with our Blast & Paint facility, with both teams still trying to find the pot of gold!
That’s all from me for now. As always, remember The Safe Way is The Only Way, and let’s remember to keep looking out for each other.
Cheers,
Paul
