Gratitude and why it’s important

Gratitude is the practice of being thankful for and focussing on what we have in our lives, rather than on what we don’t have.

Why are we talking about gratitude? Because that’s the next topic in our 8 part Wellbeing Series by renowned wellbeing organisation, The Resilience Project.

Studies show that practicing gratitude has huge benefits for our mental and physical health, and after just 21 days, you will start to have a more positive outlook on the world. After 42 days, you become more optimistic, more energetic, better focused, less likely to get sick, sleep better, and feelings of anxiety and depression begin to improve.

Here are a few ways you can practice gratitude in your daily life:

  • Say to yourself three things that went well for you today
  • Write down something you are looking forward to tomorrow
  • Reflect on what you were most proud of this week
  • Write a letter of gratitude to someone who has impacted your life in a positive way. Whether you send it or don’t – the positive feeling from writing it out might surprise you

For Monadelphous employees, we’ve made the entire Wellbeing Series available on the Resilience Project hub (see Health and Wellbeing on the Benefits with Us page above).
