R U OK? Day is an annual reminder to check in on your friends, family, and workmates, marked on the second Thursday of September. It's an opportunity to start conversations that can make a real difference.

At the Kalgoorlie office, they marked the occasion with a well-attended barbecue, where team members enjoyed good food and even better company.

Some of the office crew brought along extra treats, with a potato bake quickly becoming a crowd favourite.

While the food was a treat, the team actually got together for a very important message. Harrison Morgan-Lobb gave a thoughtful speech, reminding everyone of the importance of looking out for each other—not just on R U OK? Day, but any day.

His message struck a chord, especially as he pointed out that we all lead busy lives, but making time for a simple check-in can have a big impact.

A lot can change in a year, a month, or even a week. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or workmate, life’s ups and downs affect everyone. Regular, meaningful conversations help build trust and make it easier for people to open up when things get tough.

The event was a success, bringing the team together for an afternoon of connection, good food, and an important reminder about mental health awareness.

Remember, you don't need to be an expert to reach out - just a good friend and a great listener.

Use these four steps and have a conversation that could change a life:

  1. Ask R U OK?
  2. Listen
  3. Encourage action
  4. Check in

R U OK-1
