Unlike common recyclables, protective eyewear is crafted from polycarbonate – a material renowned for its durability but notoriety for landfill persistence.
This is why traditional recycling processes can't accommodate it, as it is a unique composition.
Recently, our team in Bunbury linked up with the SafeStyle Recycling Bin program to provide a sustainable way for staff and the community to dispose of eye protection gear.
Spearheaded by HSE Advisor Jessica Perry, the new SafeStyle Recycling bin is now ready to take in all your old or broken protective eyewear, regardless of their branding or condition.
This program is crucial as it diverts these durable plastics away from landfills, where they would linger indefinitely. Instead, the collected eyewear will be transported to a specialised facility within Australia and transformed into high-quality materials for construction projects, including roofing materials, bus shelters and even hard hats.
We encourage everyone within the South West area to participate in this collective effort towards a more sustainable future.
