Each month, Monos Moments recognises the people who go above and beyond, step up, support their teams, and deliver work the right way.
In April, we decided to mix it up and select multiple worthy winners, given the vast number of nominations and everyone's awesome work.
Albert Sequeira & Kameswara Rao Gokidi – Albert and Kameswara redesigned an existing Smart Arm personal retrieval system at Tanami, used to rescue people from a tank’s confined space, creating a safer, more usable device.
Chris Cruz – During the installation of cable ladder support posts at Olympic Dam, Chris identified a highly effective improvement that significantly reduced manual handling requirements, overall completion time, and injury risk.
Jamie Thomson – Over at Worsley Alumina, Jamie identified and removed an unsecured blind flange above a frequently used walkway, eliminating a significant dropped object risk before nearby works commenced.
The Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter/Concentrator Work Crews were nominated through the client’s ACE Champion Awards in recognition of achieving two years recordable injury free, with special recognition to the KNS Asset Integrity Crew, who have surpassed six years without a recordable injury.
Kanowna Belle Shutdown teams - Despite challenging wet weather conditions during the recent Kanowna Belle planned April shutdown, the teams successfully completed their work safely and ahead of schedule.
This includes the following teams, who worked on the shutdown.
- Tank Works - day & night shift crews
- Piping Works - day & night shift crews

Kieran Fisher – Kieran was the first person to arrive at a car crash scene while driving home from Worsley, and immediately helped extract an individual from a vehicle, directed traffic, and called emergency services.
Leslie Reeves & Lindsay Hay – Leslie and Lindsay identified a stillage with broken welds and immediately tagged it out of service, demonstrating strong attention to detail and safe work practices in Geraldton.
Lindsay Hay – Lindsay took the time out on his days off to assist with an independent scaffold audit in Worsley, ensuring all inspections were conducted accurately and efficiently.

The Mine End Shutdown Crew at Olympic Dam demonstrated outstanding teamwork while delivering two major tasks while sharing the same work area with a contractor partner during shutdown activities. By maintaining strong communication and professionalism, both teams will complete their respective scopes successfully, safely, and on schedule.
