After more than 30 years with Monadelphous, Rob Grubb is now ready to hang up the boots and look ahead to a new chapter.

His journey began back in 1992 in Kalgoorlie, starting out as a fitter machinist before moving into estimating and commercial work. Along the way he has been part of major projects, guided younger teammates and built lasting friendships.

One memory from those early days still makes him smile and set the tone for the years to come.

“Over 30 years ago when we first moved into the current Kalgoorlie Operations, John Rubino was viewing our new workshop when he noticed that there was a transportable office mounted above the workshop store to facilitate a supervisor to oversee the workshop activities,” Rob explained.

“He immediately instructed that it was to be removed as Monos’ workers did not need surveillance.

“This made me smile and endeared me to John from then on.”

It was in that moment Rob knew he had found not just a job, but a place where trust and respect mattered.

Over the years, he witnessed people come and go, projects start and finish and many changes in the business and industry.

“One of the biggest things I have seen over the years is the steady determined progression of advancement in quality and capability” Rob said.

After over three decades, Rob has many proud moments and memories, but his favourite ones have been where he has seen the next generation excel.

“There is a lot that I am proud of, especially when it was a young engineer’s first go at running the show,” he said.

Some of his highlights include working on the Fimiston Haul Truck overpass, CV2A Conveyor, Granny Smith CIL Upgrade, Matte Granulation Project and Gidji Roaster Fine Grind Project.

With retirement just on the horizon, Rob is looking forward to simpler days.

“I’m excited to get a bit more time to do some painting with acrylics, or maybe do some carpentry,” he said. A spot of gardening, a round of golf and even some fishing might find their way in too.

Thanks for everything Rob, and enjoy the well-earned next chapter.
