Sleigh, but make it diesel

The scaffolding crew in the Tanami has built a reputation for being close knit, helped along by an unusual detail. Five father and son pairs are currently on the Tanami team and the setup has given the site a distinctly family style feel.

At the end of last year, Christmas came early for the scaffolding crew, with a brand new truck arriving in the yard. No gift tags were spotted, but the timing left no doubt about who it was for.

For younger workers the family dynamic has meant steady guidance from people who have been in the trade for years. Several scaffolders began as trade assistants and have since moved into skilled roles after gaining experience and training.

The result has been a pipeline of future scaffolders who are learning how to put the pieces together on site and off it.

Advanced Scaffolder and Leading Hand, Matty Sione, has helped steer that growth with a focus on getting the basics right and encouraging younger scaffolders to take responsibility for how they carry themselves.

It has been described as a culture that shows you how to stand something up properly without having to be told twice.

The cultural growth and ongoing development of younger scaffolders as the real highlight of the year, with the shiny new truck acting as the cherry on top to close things out.
