Business brief
Alastair Reid
M&IS Executive General Manager
I was recently proud to present the 59th M&IS Teamwork Baton to the KMK Cogen team in recognition of their dedication, which resulted in achieving two years without an unplanned outage.
This milestone reflects the strength of their teamwork, problem-solving, and commitment to continuous improvement.
Every member of the team has played a crucial role in keeping the facility running smoothly, whether by refining operations, maintaining equipment, or finding solutions to challenges that arose along the way.
A great example is the gas turbine, which was commissioned in 1992 and later relocated to KMK in 1998, where it transitioned from electricity generation to steam production for local refineries. Early on, frequent trips and outages created hurdles, but the team took on the challenge, working together to improve reliability and performance.
Since our team took on the project in 2011, their structured approach to asset management, combined with key upgrades in 2014, has driven lasting improvements at the facility, significantly reducing unplanned outages.
In 2018, the facility achieved its first uninterrupted operational period of more than 12 months, demonstrating the impact of teamwork and continuous improvement. The team has now achieved two years uninterrupted, ensuring a steady and reliable supply of steam and electricity to clients and partners.
Together, they've built and maintained a positive culture where challenges are tackled together and milestones are achieved as a collective effort.
Please join me in congratulating the KMK Cogen team for their well-earned achievement!
