This month, we continue to celebrate the hard work, dedication, and leadership demonstrated by our incredible team members.

Taking out the top spot for May is Luke Gamma. Luke’s initiative, “Please Come Home, Daddy,” is changing the way we think about mine site safety. Instead of just focusing on policies and procedures, Luke has brought in something much more personal; heartfelt messages from the children of mine workers, displayed on safety signage. Messages like "Please come home, Mummy, I need you!" serve as powerful reminders that safety isn’t just about the workplace, it’s about families, futures, and making sure everyone gets home at the end of the day.

His project has already caught the attention of our client, with early discussions about rolling it out more broadly. Luke’s approach proves that safety isn’t just about ticking boxes, it’s about real connection, and that’s what makes his initiative so impactful.

Let’s also give a big shout-out to our other May nominees:

Darren Knight - Darren has led an 18-month effort to enhance the RTW blast and paint facility, improving infrastructure, risk assessment processes, and workplace conditions. His persistence has strengthened safety practices, elevated product quality, and boosted morale within the team.

Darl Abrea - Without hesitation, Darl committed to an extended swing at Olympic Dam to support the Casting Crane Isolation Period. Facing a logistically complex project, he coordinated multi-crane operations and emergent works while ensuring safety and efficiency. His leadership fostered team spirit through BBQs and pizza nights, maintaining high morale throughout the outage.

Ancillary Projects Team - In early May, the team identified a safety hazard, a poly tank left unsecured in a client’s laydown yard at Olympic Dam. Taking initiative beyond their scope, they secured the tank, reported the issue, and demonstrated a proactive safety culture that earned high praise from the client.

Matthew Blechynden - With no heavy diesel fitter on shift, Matthew stepped up to assess and repair blown hoses, ensuring minimal downtime for plant operations at Muja. His dedication to problem-solving meant the machine was restored promptly, impressing the client with his initiative and commitment.

Murray Goodwin - A nomination straight from the client at Worsley! Murray consistently goes the extra mile during demobilisation, carefully rolling and marking sheeting for future use, a small yet invaluable act that streamlines operations for everyone.

Joel Smith - In just his first month in a new technical role at KMK Cogen Power Station, Joel stepped up during a three-day outage. With the Site Manager on leave, he took charge of client communication and supported senior operators in restarting the plant, demonstrating resilience and teamwork despite his limited exposure.

Louis McCully - During a pipe flange disconnection at Worsley, Louis detected a pressure release and the smell of gas. Without hesitation, he stopped the job and ensured safety protocols were followed before proceeding, preventing a potentially dangerous situation.

Jason Gard - Jason's sharp attention to detail saved valuable time and resources. He identified a faulty valve during commissioning, preventing a costly delay in the Cal5 shutdown at Worsley. His technical awareness and proactive approach were crucial to the project’s success.

Jamie Doust - Faced with capacity issues from an extended coal stockpile request, Jamie stepped up to shape and contour the west stockpile, ensuring a safe and operational work area for all. His proactive problem-solving and leadership were key to a successful project outcome at Muja.

Timothy Garrigan - Tim embodies dedication and enthusiasm. He consistently makes smart decisions while keeping morale high with his upbeat attitude and sense of humour. His commitment to his duties makes him a valued member of our Worsley Team.
