Almost seven years ago, Dry Spell was born from a dream to raise awareness for mental health and wellbeing.
It was co-founded by Melchor Operations Manager, Dylan and his mate who understood the serious risks of depression and suicide among construction workers.
The fundraising initiative challenges people to take a break from an unhealthy habit for 100 days (or the mid-strength version of 50), while simultaneously raising money to help support mental health in the construction industry.
“I know for a fact that partaking in Dry Spell has proven to be a lifeline for many. The initiative has directly contributed to improved mental health, saving lives,” Dylan said.
Since its inception, 621 people have risen to the test. Each person choosing to give up drinking, gambling, coffee, or a food vice in the name of Dry Spell and collecting an incredible total of $375,709 for MATES in Construction WA.
“It’s been an overwhelming success and it’s impressive to see what the industry has been able to achieve together,” he said.
When asked what he’s taking a break from this year, the answer is easy.
“Personally, I’m committing to taking a break from having a punt, as I’m now in my fourth year off the beers,” Dylan explained.
If you’re keen to get involved, the annual 100-day event starts on June 12 and runs until September 19. The two mid-strength rounds begin on June 12 and August 1, respectively.
