Committed to Net Zero

Sustainability
1 Minute Read

Since we announced our commitment to Net Zero in June last year, we have been taking steps across the business to address our environmental impact and protect our natural environment for future generations.

“Net Zero” refers to a target of completely offsetting the amount of greenhouse gases we produce. This can be achieved by reducing emissions, most of which come from the burning of fossil fuels, and by removing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

By transitioning to net zero emissions and creating more sustainable solutions, we are playing a part in responding to the risks of climate change and ensuring we are adapting for a low-carbon future.

To help us on our environmental journey, Monadelphous developed an Emissions and Energy Reduction Roadmap that outlines our approach based on three scopes: direct emissions within our operational control, indirect emissions that we own and indirect emissions owned by others.

To support the company-wide Emissions and Energy Reduction Roadmap, the east coast team has developed our own MISER Sustainable Facilities Roadmap, which focuses on reducing our environmental impacts within four key areas: energy efficiency, water conservation, emission reduction and waste management.

Nick Udy, HSE Manager- Eastern Region, said: “The MISER Sustainable Facilities Roadmap has been really embraced by our Branch Managers and HSE. Our teams were already implementing a lot of reduction measures, so this Roadmap ties them all together into a shared goal while also ensuring we support the group-wide Roadmap.”

Some of the initiatives we have kicked off already, including 100% LED lighting within all of our facilities by 2025, minimum water and energy saving ratings for all newly purchased appliances, Mackay is actively reducing its fleet emissions by substituting diesel utes with hybrid vehicles, and the iPipe team is trialing Biodiesel as an alternative fuel source.
