Monadelphous, in partnership with Tanks and Tails, achieved an impressive feat at Lihir Island. They tackled the PV062 Acid Wash Vessel, where they were challenged to remove its internal rubber lining and replace two faulty nozzles.
With only a small 400mm access point for entry and exit, the Tanks and Tails team turned to Monadelphous for their expertise in creating a rope access system. This innovative solution made removing the internal rubber lining possible, a crucial step in replacing the two faulty nozzles.
After the welding and a careful inspection, the team re-entered the vessel to replace the internal rubber lining and conducted a thorough holiday test to ensure the work met strict standards.
Remarkably, this intricate operation was completed within the specified 7-shift timeframe, showcasing Monadelphous' dedication to safety and efficiency. Plans are already in motion to replicate this process for two more vessels in November.
Following this, the shutdown team entrusted Monadelphous with two projects at AC4. The first project required 174 hours of scaffolding for base construction and removal once finished, with a focus on the emergency steam vent line. Using rope access, the team performed Ultrasonic Testing (UT) on the vent line and completed the task safely and efficiently in just 10 hours.
The second project focused on replacing the Mechanical bellows on two vessels. Monadelphous completed the task in just 124 hours, reducing the time required by an impressive 80 hours.
This achievement highlights our team’s technical excellence and marks the successful integration of rope access techniques into the Lihir Island process plant for the first time. It is a significant milestone for Monadelphous and a notable advancement for the Projects and Engineering department.
