Our Eastern region team has recently successfully executed two major dragline shutdowns simultaneously in the Bowen Basin at Blackwater and Moranbah.
The Moranbah shutdown, commenced on 11 June. The Blackwater project started on 20 April and wrapped up on 31 July, totalling an impressive 102 days.
Shutdowns Manager Glen Lacey highlighted how big the tasks were to pull off.
"Operating two major shutdowns concurrently, especially with the projects located 400 km apart—and another 400 km from our base in Mackay—posed a unique set of challenges,” Glen said.
“Both had very large scopes and needed large amounts of specialised equipment and tooling provided and supported by the Mackay Facility.”
The projects required significant resources, with peak staffing reaching 110 personnel in Moranbah and another 90 people for Blackwater.
These numbers underscore the vast scope and scale of these operations, necessitating substantial amounts of specialised equipment and tooling, which our Mackay Facility adeptly provided and supported.
"A big shout out to Michael Allen, our branch Logistics Coordinator, who managed this extremely well," Glen added, applauding the exceptional coordination efforts that ensured the smooth execution of both projects.
The successful completion of these projects strengthens our expertise in managing complex logistics and shutdowns and solidifies our reputation as a leader in industrial solutions.
