Paddles to podium at the annual Dragon Boat Cup

The annual Monos Dragon Boat Cup was back again in the iconic Brisbane River last week, bringing together our local team for an action-packed day on the water.

Facilitated by the Brisbane Typhoons, the Cup involved a high-stakes race between four mixed teams, giving everyone a unique opportunity to bond and connect with their colleagues.

The objective was clear - to have an absolute blast, acquire new skills, and foster teamwork within the Monos family. For the competitive spirits, the idea of claiming a grand trophy for the fastest team in the cup was all the incentive they needed.

This year’s theme was inspired by the local culture, featuring Australian animals in the Brisbane Indigenous language Yugara. The team names, Barrar (Kangaroo), Kubbi (Possum), and Mirri (Dingo) and Powai (Shark) paid homage to the unique Australian environment. The Brisbane Typhoons had the challenging task of crowning a winner.

And now, the moment of truth - the results:

  1. Team MIRRI (yellow) - They secured the prestigious 2023 Monos' Dragon Boat Cup.
  1. Team BARRAR (red) - Earned a well-deserved second place.
  1. Team KUBBI (purple) - Impressed with a solid third-place finish.
  1. Team POWAI (blue) - Showcased commendable performance, securing fourth place.

Everyone involved showed exceptional teamwork and unity throughout the day, making Dragon Boat Cup 2023 an event to remember.

Well done to everyone involved in making this year’s event such a success, including the event organisers, the spirited cheer squad, the dedicated paddlers, the Brisbane Typhoons and all participants!
