In early 2022, our iPipe Services team was awarded a multi-year contract as the Main Shutdown and Mechanical Contractor for a series of shutdowns in Central Queensland, which is a testament to their ongoing delivery for long-term customer, Origin Energy.
iPipe has worked on other scopes with Origin in the past, however this contract has provided an opportunity to expand our capability and service offering in the shutdown space.
The shutdown involves conducting maintenance work on a series of gas processing facilities, which are either two or three train facilities across Spring Gully, Reedy Creek, Condabri and Orana Assets.
Despite being only halfway through the scope of work, our team has completed each shutdown on schedule and with a great safety record (no recordable injuries).
M&IS East Operations Manager, David Slack-Smith, said securing this contract had provided a fantastic opportunity for iPipe to demonstrate their capability.
“Previously, iPipe’s experience was seen as a specialised service provider in the market, so they were often not given the opportunity to do mainstream shutdown activities.
“Although they had performed some purging, nitrogen and cooler cleaning work on these facilities, tackling a shutdown of this size and nature was new for them, so having the opportunity to operate as the principal contractor has been huge,” he said.
Since Monadelphous acquired iPipe in 2019, the business has been able to transition from a specialist pipeline maintenance contractor to expand their service offering into structural, mechanical and piping work.
“Previously, the majority of their work involved providing specialist services across Gas gathering and compression facilities in the Surat Basin, having the backing and support of a well-established business like Monadelphous has allowed iPipe to secure a contract of this nature and grow their crew to over 120 personnel,” he added.
David said the future looks bright for iPipe, particularly with a proven track record of delivering safe and reliable turnaround services for our customers.
“Most recently, iPipe has built a pressure safety valve testing facility to complement its service offering, and is looking to obtain more civil project work, which coincides with the maintenance and excavation work the business is so experienced in,” he said.
