Leadership Updates
3 Minute Read

Welcome to the latest edition of On the Hook. There’s plenty happening across the Heavy Lift business, and I’m pleased to share some of our recent highlights.

I’d like to start with some exciting news, with the official announcement that we have secured a new five‑year panel contract to provide mobile crane and lifting services across Rio Tinto’s Pilbara port and mine facilities, along with a three‑year contract to continue delivering multidisciplinary sustaining capital services. This is an outstanding achievement for the entire team, and I’m extremely grateful to everyone who contributed to getting this over the line. It’s a strong endorsement of the quality of work we deliver and the trust our customers place in us every day.

Since my last update our new Stretch Reconciliation Action Plan 2026-2029 was launched, reaffirming our long-term commitment to reconciliation through meaningful action, stronger capability and deeper partnerships. I was honoured to attend the launch event held on the banks of the Derbal Yerrigan (Swan River). It was a genuinely meaningful experience, filled with culture and connection. Our Stretch RAP builds on the progress we’ve made and focuses on embedding reconciliation in a way that’s authentic and lasting. I encourage everyone to take the time to read the plan and reflect on how our everyday actions can help bring it to life.

I’d like to acknowledge Paige Griffiths and Cameron Hausler, the newest additions to our Heavy Lift leadership team. Paige has stepped into the role of Operations Manager and brings 15 years of experience across the EC Division and a strong reputation built on major projects. Starting out as part of our undergraduate program, Paige has come a long way, and I have no doubt she will continue to step up in her new role.

Cameron joins us from the M&IS Division as our new Operations Services Manager. Working for Monadelphous for over 10 years, Cameron also brings extensive experience from across our business. In his new role he will support our teams across maintenance, management of our depots, planning and mobilisation.

These appointments reflect the depth of talent in our business and the opportunities we’re creating for our people.

Our Heavy Lift fleet continues to grow as we welcome three new cranes to the Heavy Lift fleet. We have acquired a 150t lattice boom crawler, a 250t telecrawler and a 300t all-terrain crane. These cranes will support our crews to deliver our pipeline of work for the coming years.

We’ve also received delivery of two very special cranes arriving in early May from China. After many months of planning we are excited to welcome two 250t hybrid all-terrain cranes to our fleet. These assets mark an important milestone for the business, reinforcing our focus on innovation, operational efficiency and supporting our customers aspiration to decarbonise their operations. I look forward to sharing more when we unveil them at an exclusive launch event next month.

From an HSE perspective, it’s been a high‑activity period. Travis Gaspar and the team have reported solid performance despite a significant increase in work hours. With this uplift, incidents did increase through April; however, pleasingly there were no serious injuries. Asset related incidents remain our most common and continue to be a key focus, particularly around working safely with mobile plant and equipment. Our safety journey requires constant diligence, and I encourage everyone to think about how we can improve and share those ideas with your local leadership team.

Our fatal risk audit program continues across all operations, focusing on mobile plant, loads and lifting, working at heights and driving. Results have been encouraging and show our teams are applying the right controls in the field. We’re also maintaining our focus on fatal risk training, including crane safety, forklift and telehandler awareness. In the coming months, we’ll roll out a serious incident lessons learned campaign focused on past loads and lifting incidents, ensuring these learnings are well understood as more people join our teams.

Operationally, the business remains steady and well positioned. Mobilisation continues across key projects, and our 1600 tonne Rubino crawler crane is on track to be assembled at BHP’s Car Dumper 4 site at Finucane Island in June ahead of its next major lift.

Our partnership with Fortescue continues to track well, with strong support across crane services, shutdown execution and project delivery, with consistent performance, collaboration and safe execution central to our work across the Pilbara. We have had major shutdowns over the past few months and I would like to congratulate all our teams that help us to achieve these goals.

Dave Muirhead and the Alevro team continue to do an excellent job maintaining focus and discipline across both Project Ceres and Pluto Train 1 Mods. Project Ceres has passed a key milestone, with more than half of the modules delivered and installed, which is a significant achievement given the scale and complexity. In early April, the team also successfully completed the first delivery of modules to site in Dampier for Pluto Train 1 Mods.

April also saw us support the Pluto 1 tie-ins and the Woodside Turnaround with a major effort to mobilise cranes and personnel to site.

Thank you again for your commitment, teamwork and the pride you bring to your work every day. It’s been a strong start to the year, and I’m confident we’re well positioned to keep building our capability, supporting our people and delivering through this period of growth.

Stay safe and keep looking out for one another.

Daniel
