We are delighted to welcome our newest addition to the EC Leadership Team - Daniel Ooi, who joins our business as the new GM Heavy Lift and Support Services.
Daniel joins Monadelphous with more than two decades of engineering and leadership experience across the resources and energy sectors. His career spans roles with contractors, OEMs, customers and engineering firms - including time with Mondium, the Monadelphous-Lycopodium joint venture, giving him a well-rounded view of the industry and a deep insight into the needs of our clients and partners.
In his new role, Daniel will lead the Heavy Lift business unit, including the Alevro joint venture, while also overseeing Support Services across the EC Division. This includes functional leadership of Design and Project Management, Technical Services, Logistics and Materials Management, areas critical to the Division’s long-term success.
Daniel brings a calm, considered leadership style and a strong belief in collaboration, capability development and continuous improvement. He’s passionate about building high-performing teams and creating the right conditions for people to thrive.
With a strong foundation already in place, Daniel is excited to help shape the next chapter for Heavy Lift and Support Services – one that continues to push boundaries, deliver safely and reliably, and support the strategic growth of the EC Division.
We thought we’d take the opportunity to get to know a bit more about Daniel. Here’s what he had to say when we sat down for a chat.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I am Perth born and bred growing up in and around Shenton Park. I am half Chinese with my Dad moving to Perth in the 70s. I currently live in Inglewood with my wife Kristie and 3 children Isabelle (19), Blake (17) and Zara (14).
How do you like to spend your time outside of work?
I enjoy watching my kids play sport on the weekends. The weekends also give me a chance to catch up with friends and family. It’s also nice to put a bit more time into cooking – usually a roast on a Sunday evening.
What’s something people might be surprised to learn about you?
Growing up during the 80s, I am quite handy on a pair of roller skates.
If you could travel anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would you go and why?
I would definitely pick Europe. I’ve made it there once before and definitely want to go back to see more. Visiting historic sites and being able to visit so many places so close together are highlights.
What’s your leadership philosophy and how do you like to work with your teams?
I’m a firm believer that great success comes from working with great people. When we enable great people to thrive it is truly amazing what we can achieve. In my role as a leader I enjoy playing my part to help our people excel. Behind every great project is a high performing team.
What are you most looking forward to in your new role?
I feel extremely lucky to be part of the Heavy Lift Team and helping continue the growth in the business. In my short time here I can see the excellent team culture that has led to the success to date and I look forward to being part of the team and the journey.
The Support Services portfolio is an exciting opportunity for me to help our teams across the EC business grow sustainably. I’m keen to understand what the business needs and make a positive impact to assist each part of the business achieves its goals.
