Join us in celebrating our recent Monos Moments winners, who epitomise Monadelphous' culture and values. We have had so many great nominations coming through – thank you to everyone who has taken the time to recognise a team mate.
Congratulations to our March Monos Moments champion, Brodie Webber!
At our Olympic Dam operations in South Australia, Brodie and the paint crew, part of the Deslimes team, took immediate action when they noticed that the gas monitors given to them were out of calibration. They didn't just report the issue; they also tagged the monitors out of service and informed the Client Supervisor. Despite being instructed to continue working, they prioritised safety and decided to stop work until the monitors were fixed. This decision, demonstrating their exceptional integrity, earned them this recognition. It is a sterling example of our teammates exercising their 'Stop Work Authority,' a right we all have when we believe there is a real risk to our health and safety.
We would also like to recognise the following nominees, each of whom has won a $50 gift voucher:
- Bronwyn Harrison for her support of a friend and colleague. In January, Bronwyn organised a fundraiser for Tracy Mulcahy, a South32 team member diagnosed with cancer. The event raised $7,150 in just over two weeks. On 19 February, Bronwyn and colleagues presented Tracy with the donation and a card, showcasing the caring spirit of our workplace community.
- Dean Gibbon for his teamwork and integrity. Over the past year, Dean has diligently maintained our stores and ensured all tools are in top condition. He proactively completes quarterly compliance tagging and readily takes ownership of any challenges. Dean is a valuable asset to our team and exemplifies our team spirit.
- David Hutchinson for his unwavering commitment to safety. Dave recognised the need for a balanced safety approach at Albemarle. Despite our excellent safety record, he deemed it crucial to address potential future risks. Dave collaborated with the safety team and organised a safety reset session following a Hazard Hunt. He emphasised the importance of vigilance, teamwork, and guarding against complacency in the workplace. His proactive mindset ensures that everyone returns home safely each day, a value we strive to uphold across our operations.
- Samuel De Laine for going above and beyond. The Major Maintenance Projects team at BHP - Olympic Dam focuses on tank maintenance. Our Roxby Team missed out on this package due to the need for more dedicated mechanical support. Sam stepped up and coordinated with MMP despite it being outside his area of expertise. Within 6-9 months, he has made our team MMP's preferred contractor, expanding our services. Sam's versatility and commitment to excellence exemplify our value of achievement.
- Derryn Dowling for his proactive approach to safety. Derryn and the underground rail team spent three days assisting BHP with cleaning when they discovered a safety hazard—a deteriorated piece of MDF covering a flooring penetration. Derryn promptly cordoned off the area and reported it to BHP. They were praised for their diligence and further instructed to raise an action for immediate rectification. They were also commended for their high standard of work in identifying the risk of a 'serious injury'.
April
Congratulations to our April Monos Moment Champion - Ben De Laine!
Ben has recently taken on the responsibility of HSE Advisor for Roxby Downs while also undertaking a dual role as a Project Supervisor. Nothing has been too difficult for Ben, even as he adjusts to a new role, carries out his regular responsibilities, and consistently performs as a leader. Ben always demonstrates flexibility and a commitment to safety, culture, and quality, with an unwavering willingness to assist everyone else. He fosters a positive workplace culture and embodies our core values of Teamwork ("mates looking after mates") and Safety.
We also acknowledge the following Monos Moments recipients for the month, each of whom will receive a $50 voucher:
- Byron Albertsen, who, as a volunteer firefighter, took time away from work to fight the fire at Waroona/Nanga, helping to protect lives and properties and showing great community spirit.
- Luke Dowey for always going the extra mile to provide transparent return information when fault finding or attending to repairs.
- Steve Gstalter for taking the initiative to design and improve the layout of the Forkliftable Skid Platform, which is fitted with blast equipment. This upgrade has enhanced the unit's operational safety performance and has cost-saving benefits.
- Byron Fenn, who, during a pre-start mobilisation of a subcontractor, noticed that their safety harnesses did not meet S32 specifications, promptly took them out of service and loaned ours while they replaced the non-conforming harnesses.
- Nathan Munday for showing genuine care for all teammates, past and present, across all areas of South West Operations and RTW, including ensuring people know their contributions are recognised by others even when they are not present.
