Celebrating a quarter century at Monos

1 Minute Read

In the heart of Kalgoorlie, James Trott’s career at Monadelphous has spanned 25 years.

James' story began in 1995 when, aged 16, he embarked on his apprenticeship journey with Monadelphous. Reflecting on those early days, Trott recalls his time in the earthmoving division, where he cut his teeth alongside seasoned veterans who imparted their invaluable wisdom.

"Within my first 12 months with Monadelphous I was assigned to a division that had just started before being rotated out with another apprentice," James said.

Over the years, Trott's career trajectory soared as he transitioned from a senior boilermaker to a workshop leading hand and eventually, workshop foreman.

"I spent the next three years in the fabrication division workshop with some stints on a few different mine sites around the Goldfields," James said.

"Fast forward 25 years – I'm still in the workshop and I’m still loving it."

Amidst the clang of metal and the whir of machinery, James found that his true passion lies not just in the hands-on work itself but in the satisfaction of seeing a job through from conception to completion.

"I enjoy the variety of work that comes through the door and the challenges that some jobs present," he said.

"It's always satisfying to see a job go out that I have made or that I have had a hand in seeing through to completion."

Outside the workshop, Trott is a proud Kalgoorlie local. He met his wife there, and together they've built a life filled with memories and raised their three children.

When not shaping metal, James can be found exploring the world, cheering on the local football team, or nurturing his garden.

Reflecting on his journey, James notes the seismic shifts in Monadelphous' safety culture over the years, going from strength to strength.

"Since I started at Monadelphous the safety culture and quality culture has changed substantially. Our ability to deliver a high quality job safely I think puts us miles ahead of our local competitors," he said.

But beyond the tangible achievements, James' greatest treasures lie in the people he's met along the way and the lessons they've given him.

"The people I have met over the years and the things they have taught me would have to be the highlight of my time at Monadelphous," he said.

Congratulations on achieving your 25 year milestone, James!
