February’s Monos Moments is here! We're celebrating the legends who went above and beyond, showing the teamwork and dedication that make Monos a great place to be.
Our winner this month is Marcus Lovegrove.
Marcus has been recognised for his commitment to safety—not only for his team and workmates but also for a subcontractor working on the job. His dedication to wellbeing and willingness to challenge industry norms set an excellent example for others.
Marcus observed a subcontractor operating machinery with the potential to come close to moving parts. While industry practice deemed the risk minimal, Marcus took the initiative to improve safety by fabricating and installing a temporary guard using leftover materials on site. His proactive approach ensured a safer working environment for everyone on-site. This is an outstanding demonstration of teamwork and a strong commitment to health and safety. Well done, Marcus!
Let’s also celebrate our other February nominees, who will each receive $50 Gift Cards for their recent contributions:
Adam Clark, Jamie Thomson & Steven Smilie – Safety & Wellbeing, Integrity
Jamie, Adam, and Steven raised concerns after discovering a gasket with an unusual colour and material while removing a port on top of T129. Suspecting it could be asbestos; they ensured the gasket was sent for lab testing. Their diligence also highlighted a potential exposure risk for another vendor who had worked on-site previously. The client’s hygienist confirmed asbestos presence.
Genesis Mechanical Crew – Safety & Wellbeing, Teamwork, Achievement, Loyalty
During a mill shutdown, the team was asked to halt their own maintenance work to assist with emergency repairs on a damaged crusher screen beam. Without hesitation, they stepped in to weld the structure back together—on a scorching 45-degree day. Their quick response prevented significant operational delays for the client.
Dominic Francis – Excellence
While operating a buggy inside the Kiln on the Liquor Burner, Dominic was praised by the client as the only person who could reverse the buggy out of the tunnel without driving it up the kiln walls—a challenging task that typically takes multiple attempts. His precision and skill were acknowledged in the Worsley Supervisor meeting.
Bronwyn Harrison – Wellbeing
When residual product leaked onto workers' boots during an inspection, Bronwyn quickly organised replacement PPE, ensuring their safety. Her dedication to looking after the team extends beyond safety—she also organises BBQs every shutdown, boosting morale and fostering a strong sense of community.
Ed Smit – Teamwork
Edward demonstrated flexibility and expertise by seamlessly working between crews and delivering high-quality repairs, including straightening the cage mill face plate. His consistent craftsmanship has earned excellent feedback from the client.
Peter Lodge – Excellence
A quiet achiever, Peter is known for his mechanical aptitude, proactive questioning, and commitment to seeing tasks through. With 100% attendance and engagement, he consistently delivers outstanding results.
Sean Hunt – Teamwork
Sean has been recognised for his strong leadership and unwavering work ethic. His ability to take ownership of tasks has earned him great feedback from both colleagues and the client.
Colin Sutherland – Teamwork
Colin’s dedication to tender submissions has been instrumental in securing multiple projects this month, including a significant win at Geraldton Port. Despite tough market conditions, his perseverance is paying off.
Mark O’Keeffe – Teamwork & Cooperation
During a critical facility restart, Mark stepped in—despite not being on shift—to assist the operations team with a complex generator issue. His technical guidance prevented a plant shutdown, showcased his expertise, and helped upskill the team.
Cooper Tatafu – Achievement
Cooper identified performance issues in the Gas Turbine and led a project to enhance gas pressure regulation. His hands-on approach, from designing modifications to liaising with inspectors and suppliers, resulted in the GT achieving full power post-shutdown. His proactive problem-solving significantly benefited both the site team and the client.
Tim Senior – Safety & Wellbeing
Tim consistently identifies workplace hazards, ensuring not only his own safety but that of his colleagues. His keen eye for detail and proactive attitude make him a valuable asset to the team.
Jesse Lovegrove-Buckskin – Teamwork & Dedication
Jesse’s positive attitude and proactive approach have significantly improved workflow efficiency. His ability to troubleshoot and propose innovative solutions has saved time and resources. Starting as an apprentice, Jesse has rapidly developed into a standout team member, demonstrating both skill and leadership potential.
Jayke Bennett – Safety and Wellbeing
Jayke has used pool vehicles multiple times for travel to the site and has identified defects in these vehicles that others have missed. Although his primary role is workshop-based and he doesn't typically drive the site vehicles, when he does, he conducts a thorough pre-start inspection and takes immediate action if he finds any defects.
Oriah Hose - Achievement
Having only recently trained as a Basic Scaffolder, Oriah has been excelling at his work and stepping up to build scaffolding well above his level. His work has received commendations from our customers.
Takotoroa Priest – Teamwork & Achievement
Tuks has stepped up on site, showcasing his adaptability and teamwork skills in the face of unexpected challenges. Tuks jumped into learning and helping our paint and blast team when they needed extra hands-on board and impressed everyone with his newly developed skills.
Ben De Laine – Teamwork, Safety & Wellbeing
As part of the 2024-25 Summer of Safety campaign, a challenge was introduced for teams to submit personalised reflective questions. Ben De Laine won this challenge for his thoughtful submission on the questions his team at Roxby Downs planned to discuss over the Summer. He went above and beyond by developing these questions collaboratively with his team and documenting the process with photos to share their efforts.
Natasha Burn – Excellence
Tash's positivity and energy are contagious as she tirelessly manages training requirements for our craft and ensures that all new members are compliant. Whether she’s coordinating a rewarding barbecue for the team or tackling any task that comes her way, Tash consistently gives her all.
